Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Receives President of the Evangelical Community in Egypt to Congratulate on Eid al-Adha

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayeb, received on Monday 2 June 2025 the President of the Evangelical community in Egypt Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki, and a high-profile delegation of Church leaders to congratulate His Eminence on Eid al-Adha. The delegation expressed their sincere wishes for Egypt and its people –Muslims and Christians- continued fraternity, mutual understanding, prosperity, progress, safety and security.

The President of the Evangelical Community said: “we wish you and all our brotherly Muslims a happy Eid Al-Adha. We appreciate your efforts in keeping community peace, reinforcing the national unity ties, spreading world peace, love, and coexistence. Your Eminence is a grand religious and human leader whom we love, appreciate and cherish. We also cherish your role as an exceptional national Egyptian figure, along with your contribution to the historic Document on Human Fraternity, which plays a pivotal role in promoting fraternity and positive coexistence.”

For his part, His Eminence the Grand Imam warmly welcomed the delegation of the Evangelical community to Al-Azhar, affirming that such visits carry many noble meanings and reflect the values of affection and fraternity that unite Egyptians—Muslims and Christians. His Eminence stated: "These visits are not merely customary or ceremonial traditions; rather, every visit and meeting contributes to deepening genuine human fraternity."

He also pointed out that the Egyptian Family House has played an important role in curbing the intensity of hate speech, noting that it has now become common to see a Muslim scholar or sheikh standing alongside a priest at various occasions. He emphasized that scenes of Muslims and Christians exchanging greetings play a significant role in addressing issues that are, in essence, social problems disguised as religious extremism.
