The Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) hosted a high-level delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, comprising a select group of academic, diplomatic, and official leaders. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise in combating extremist ideologies and protecting societies from destructive ideas.
During the meeting, AOCE’s executive director, Dr. Reham Salama, highlighted the pivotal role of Al-Azhar Observatory in dismantling extremist discourse and refuting the fallacies propagated by terrorist groups in the digital sphere. In addition, she presented an overview of the operational strategy of AOCE’s 13 units, emphasizing the importance of Al-Azhar's moderate approach in consolidating the values of peaceful coexistence and social integration.
The visit included a tour of AOCE’s 13 units to provide insight into its daily monitoring and analysis systems, as well as the preparation of intellectual reports addressing contemporary issues. The delegation also reviewed AOCE's latest publications and awareness campaigns targeting youth in several languages, and commended the technological infrastructure and scientific methodology employed by the institution in monitoring extremist phenomena worldwide.
In the end, the Uzbek delegation expressed their appreciation for Al-Azhar’s vital role, under the leadership of His Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, in promoting global peace. The delegation affirmed their country’s desire to strengthen collaboration with AOCE in protecting youth and eliminating the root causes of extremist thought.
