His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, received today, Wednesday, at the Al-Azhar headquarters, His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Cairo, to discuss ways to enhance joint academic and religious cooperation between Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the State of Qatar. At the beginning of the meeting, His Eminence the Grand Imam emphasized the profound relations binding Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to the State of Qatar, recalling his multiple visits to the country and his academic activity there. He praised the authentic Arab morals and character that distinguish the Qatari people, praying to the Almighty to protect the State of Qatar and perpetuate the blessings of security and stability for its people.
His Eminence affirmed Al-Azhar’s readiness to open new horizons for cooperation with the State of Qatar through the scholarships offered by Al-Azhar for the study of Islamic and Arabic sciences, alongside enhancing academic cooperation via the exchange of professors and researchers, conducting joint research and studies, and expanding areas of cooperation between Al-Azhar University and Qatari universities, in addition to training Qatari imams and preachers at the Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers.
For his part, the Qatari Ambassador expressed his delight at meeting the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and his appreciation for His Eminence's ongoing efforts in spreading authentic Islam and promoting the values of fraternity and positive coexistence. He affirmed his country's welcome to strengthening cooperation with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif across various academic and religious fields—particularly in Islamic and Arabic sciences—and benefiting from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif’s longstanding expertise in these areas.
